The most influential fictional examples do not predict today’s AI in a simple way. Alien computers and artificial minds
Science fiction’s intelligent machines often function as imagined evidence of what an advanced civilisation might build. Robotic companions such as R2-D2 in Star Wars and helpful artificial beings in later fiction made intelligent machines appear less like replacements for humans and more like members of a social group.
